Chrysler Building in New York

The loveliest architectural work and one of the tallest buildings in the world is located in New York, named Chrysler Building. It has seventy-seven stories.
History
Walter Chrysler was the founder Chrysler Corporation, which is the second automobile manufacturer with highest sales per year. From the very beginning, Chrysler wanted to establish his company in New York. It is for this reason he acquired a building in the New York for an eighty-four year lease from the developer William H. Reynolds. Chrysler always wanted his building to be the tallest building of the world and for this reason he hired an architect, named William Van Alen. He assigned him the duty to renovate the building.
In 1928, the construction work started. 2,000 workers took part in the construction work. To make the spire of it, William used 185 feet stainless steel, purchased from German company, Krupps. The construction work of the Chrysler-building was completed in October 1929. It was then the highest building in the world, but the Empire State Building over took the title after six months. Later, TMW and Tishman Speyer Properties purchased the Chrysler-Building.
The Building
Itis 1046 feet tall and has seventy-seven floors. Due to unique design of top seven stories, it has rounded ceiling. Radio Broadcast Stations used these floors for broadcasting purposes. Other offices are located on the top floors of the building.
It is nothing less than Art Deco architecture in the city. The building is full of ornamental architecture designs, as you will see corner of the floor are decorated with eagles on the 61st floor. Different ornamental designs are obvious on different floors.
Another attractive feature of Chrysler Building is crown ornamentation. The seven terraced arches make the design of crown. Van Alen designed the terraced arches. A metal called Enduro KA-2 is used to make the crown. The design of the seven terraced arches pretty much looks like sunburst. In 1976, the Chrysler Building was given a title "National Historic Landmark," because of its historical importance.
The spire of the building is equipped with V shaped lighting along with so many floodlights. Charles Londner was the one who was responsible behind fixing the lights on the spire. These lighting features really make the building worth looking at the nighttime.
Several TV channels and Radio stations has broadcasted their programs on the Chrysler Building. Some worth mentioning names include WCBS-TV and WPAT-FM. Presently, there is no broadcast company is attached to Chrysler Building.
Facts about the Chrysler Building
Some of the important facts about Chrysler building is: it has 32 elevators and 32652 windows. 1.2 million square feet of marble is used in the interior construction of the building. Some movies also featured this building like Deep impact, Armageddon and Annie.
About 4 million people visit Chrysler Building every year. The top of the Building is a perfect example of Art Deco and an attractive feature for tourists.

This certainly is a building to put on your list of places to visit the next time you are in New York. I recently paid the building a visit myself, and was amazed by the interior of the lobby, gleaming floors, and the ceiling painting, will blow you away.
