Meet the 2011 BMW 335i Convertible
by Kara Knapp
For those who appreciate the finest of things, we introduce the 2011 BMW 3 Series. Continuing its six year prowess, the 2011 BMW 3 Series remains the best entry-level luxury sedan on the planet.
If variety is the spice of life, the 2011 BMW 3 Series is a jalapeno pepper dusted in cajun, dipped in Franks Red Hot. The 3 Series is available in a sedan, wagon, coupe and a convertible; with twin turbocharged six-cylinders, a diesel engine with sinful torque, and a regular six-cylinder that will take both your cash and dignity on the golf course. As if that were not enough; it can come equipped with more add-ons than kids in a candy store. Without a doubt, the 3 Series offers a multitude of different strokes for different folks; which helps reveal why the 3 Series has been so popular for so long.
The 3 Series coupe and convertible have undergone a slight restyling for 2011, and welcome the new and more sport-oriented 335is. All 335i models receive a new, more fuel-efficient turbocharged engine.
In its sixth year since the last full reengineering, the BMW 3 Series marches on with several notable changes for 2011. Mild styling touchups enhance the coupe and convertible that only true BMW connoisseurs will detect. The real proof of this pudding lies in an all-new engine for the 335i models. Its output remains the same, but the transformation to a single twin-scroll turbocharger in place of the old engines dual single-scroll turbochargers combines with direct injection to enhance fuel economy. On top of the new 335is added prudence, it consumes a little less fuel than the 328i.
The former twin-turbo inline-6 lives to see another day, however, it is in the new 335is coupe and convertible. This sport-tuned version produces 320 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, with an overboost function enabling a brief bump torque up to 370 lb-ft. We're approximating that the 335is will hit 60 mph in just a hair under 5 seconds. The 335i and M3 now draw striking comparison; in addition the 335is features a sport-tuned suspension and exhaust, an aerodynamic body kit, sport seats and a bulkier steering wheel.
The 3 Series remains one of the most desirable vehicles on the road. To be frank, the 3s superb combination of athletic handling and premium ride comfort cannot be matched by any other entry-level luxury model. The Sport package brings it sports-car-grade cornering capabilities independent of even a minute suggestion of impact harshness. This sophisticated multi-nature like oh so many other BMWs has often been imitated, but never duplicated.
